Viewers perceive eye contact when you look about 2° below the lens. On a laptop, that's about 2 cm.

Why placement beats
everything else.
The middle of a MacBook screen is about 10 cm below the camera, roughly 10° at laptop distance. Research puts the eye-contact sweet spot at about 2°. Calculate yours.

Camera-first placement
Pin Cuey at the notch, under the camera, beside it, or float it anywhere.
Voice Follow
Cuey listens and moves on as you reach the end of each line, without waiting for the very last word.
Adjustable Read speed
Read mode advances on its own at Slightly Fast, Fast or Extremely Fast. Change it mid-script from the prompt.
Notes mode
Talking points you step through yourself. Nothing moves until you do.
Punctuation you can see
Full stops, commas and question marks are enlarged and colour-coded, so you know where to pause and where to keep going.
Lists and headings
Bullets, numbered steps, checklists and headings in your script get their own markers on the prompt.
Four sizes
Compact, Medium, Expanded, or a full-width bar across the top of the screen.
Text size
Scale the script until it reads comfortably at arm's length.

In the UK and in broadcasting, a teleprompter is often called an autocue, after the company that made them common in TV studios. An autocue app for Mac does the same job in software: it shows your script close to the lens so you can read while looking at the audience. What is the best teleprompter app for Mac?+
Look for one that sits next to your camera, stays above other windows, and can follow your voice. Cuey was built for exactly that: it pins your script under the MacBook camera and advances as you speak.
Is there a teleprompter built into macOS?+
No. macOS doesn't include a teleprompter. You need a separate app, a browser-based teleprompter, or a hardware teleprompter rig.
Can I use a teleprompter on a MacBook without extra hardware?+
Yes. A software teleprompter like Cuey uses the MacBook's own screen. Placing the text right under the built-in camera gives you most of the benefit of a hardware rig, with nothing to set up.
Which macOS version does Cuey need?+
Cuey requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Does Cuey work with Zoom, Google Meet and Teams?+
Yes. Cuey is its own window, so it sits above any call or recording app. It isn't a plugin and isn't affiliated with those companies.
