Getting started
- Open Cuey. Its icon appears in the menu bar.
- Paste a script: copy it anywhere and press ⇧⌘V, or write it in the Cuey editor.
- Pick a mode (Follow, Read or Notes) and a placement.
- Press ⇧⌘P to start. A short countdown runs first.
Voice Follow isn't moving
- Check permissions. Voice Follow needs microphone and speech recognition access. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and → Speech Recognition, and make sure Cuey is allowed.
- Check that Dictation is available. If speech recognition is turned off at the system level, Cuey tells you and links to System Settings → Keyboard, where you can enable it, then retry.
- Check the microphone and language. In Cuey's Voice Follow settings, pick the microphone you're speaking into and the language you're speaking. The input level meter shows whether Cuey hears you.
- Quiet voice or noisy room? Adjust Microphone sensitivity in the same settings. Lower values pick up quieter speech.
- Stuck on a line? Repeat the end of the current line, or use Next to move on deliberately.
- Read the script as written. Voice Follow waits while you ad-lib and moves on when you return to the text.

What the coloured punctuation means
- Amber full stop or ellipsis: the sentence ends. Pause.
- Teal comma, colon, semicolon or dash: keep going; a short breath at most.
- Blue question mark: a question. Let your voice rise.
- Violet exclamation mark: emphasis.
- Markers before a line: ／ for bullets and numbered steps, ☑ for checklists, ◆ for headings. Start lines in your script with
-,1.,[ ]or#to get them.
Changing the Read speed
Read mode advances on its own at Slightly Fast, Fast (the default) or Extremely Fast. Change it in Settings, or mid-script from the prompt's reading controls (the text-size button), which also adjust text size. Follow mode doesn't use a speed: it moves when you do.
Positioning Cuey by your camera
For the built-in MacBook camera, use Under Camera or Notch. For an external webcam or iPhone camera, use Floating and drag Cuey as close to that lens as you can. Keep the Compact size when you can: the fewer lines, the less your eyes travel. See MacBook camera eye contact and the eye contact calculator.

Where are my scripts saved?
Scripts are saved locally on your Mac as you type, and a backup of the previous save is kept automatically.
