How to use this teleprompter
- Click Edit script, paste your text, then click Done editing. Your script is remembered in this browser.
- Press Play or the space bar. A 3-second countdown runs, then the text scrolls at 150 words per minute.
- Read at the purple line. Use ↑ and ↓ to change speed by 10 wpm, ← and → to jump back or ahead, and click the text to pause.
- Click Pop out for a small window you can drag right under your camera.
What speed should a teleprompter scroll at?
Start at 150 words per minute, a common planning pace for conversational speech, then adjust by ear: 130 for careful explanations, 170 or more for energetic short videos. The coloured punctuation is borrowed from Cuey: amber full stops mean pause, teal commas mean keep going, blue question marks mark questions.
Getting eye contact with a browser teleprompter
Make the browser window short and wide, and drag it to the top of your screen, centred under the camera. Research suggests viewers perceive eye contact when you look about 2° below the lens, which is only about 2 cm at laptop distance. Check your setup with the eye contact calculator.
When a browser teleprompter isn't enough
